History
Micarna has been the leading producer of meat, poultry, fish and egg in Switzerland for more than half a century. More than 2 million consumers enjoy Micarna’s first-rate products daily. As the leader in Swiss meat processing, Micarna has provided a diverse assortment of meat in Migros stores and external partners for over 50 years.
Milestones on the path to an Micarna group
1958
The foundation of today’s internationally active company was laid in 1958 in Courtepin, a village in western Switzerland.
1968
The first production facilit in the German-speaking region of Switzerland was built with the plant in Bazenheid.
1993
Unified operative management of both locations.
1997
Outsourcing of poultry processing to Optigal AG.
2001
The Migros Cooperative Waadt meat production becomes Micarna Ecublens.
2003
New slaughterhouse and new cutting plant in Courtepin.
2004
Takeover of the company Mérat & Cie. AG, Bern.
2005
New SBAG pig slaughterhouse in Bazenheid (participation).
2006
Merger with Optigal SA and integration of the poultry business division. Construction of the meat logistics platform in Ecublens.
2007
New slaughterhouse for SBAG large livestock in Gossau (participation). The Migros Cooperative fish business becomes Micarna Seafood.
2008
Construction of cool production and storage in Courtepin.
2009
Takeover of Natura Bündner Fleischtrocknerei in Tinizong.
2010
Takeover of Favorit Geflügel AG in Lyss. The Migros Cooperative Zürich meat production becomes Micarna Zürich.
2013
Launching of the new corporate policy and the new sustainability and innovation strategy.
2014
Founding of Stauss Geflügel GmbH in Ertingen, Germany. Takeover of Rudolf Schär AG in Thal. The Migros Cooperative Aare meat production becomes Micarna Schönbühl.
2015
Takeover of Maurer Spezialitäten in Flüh. Founding of joint venture with KM Seafood GmbH in Schirgiswalde-Kirschau, Germany.
2016
Takeover of Gabriel Fleury in Granges.
2017
Takeover of Lüchinger + Schmid in Kloten.
2018
Micarna celebrates its 60th anniversary. To mark this milestone, it releases a commerative book full of fascinating facts and extraordinary stories.
2020
Swiss Aquakulturen Birsfelden
The Micarna Group founds Swiss Aquakulturen in Birsfelden and starts the reproduction and fattening of perch and whitefish.
2022
Fusion of the Micarna Group
The company Rudolf Schär AG is fused into the Micarna Group. In 2022, Tipesca SA is integrated into the subsidiary Mérat AG.
