Migros Industrie: Why can’t I find my favorite sausage on the shelf?

In brief

Can’t find your favorite product on the shelf? At the same time, we throw expired goods in the trash. To ensure that this happens as little as possible, in Integrated Business Planning (IBP) we try to predict consumer demand in the store as accurately as possible.

In these films you will experience impressively how Micarna in Courtepin and Bazenheid masters its daily challenges: in Courtepin 100 different articles are produced with 13 production lines per day and delivered in 300 pallets. This must be planned in advance and cannot be done overnight on the basis of orders arriving at short notice. If things turn out differently than planned, the daily schedule has to be adjusted at short notice, resulting in high additional costs and waste.

Today, Micarna has to estimate the expected order quantities itself. In the future, the SAP system «Forecast & Replenishment» (F&R) will be used by Micarna for this purpose. F&R calculates the expected order quantities: normally, the colleagues in the stores only have to confirm them. In some cases, the system parameters are not yet optimally maintained, which unfortunately means that too many manual interventions are still made in the order proposals in the stores today. This will make the system preview too inaccurate for the next few weeks.

The cooperatives are actively working on improving this order proposal acceptance and we are in close exchange with them. We are already seeing initial successes through active cooperation in charcuterie.

A good example of «End to End» and living our principles: Community – Responsibility – Pioneering Spirit.
